A new premier showcase for spoken word poetry will kick off July 16th at Iron Works. Buffalo Speaks seeks to build a new stage for experienced spoken word poets.
Writers who’ve graced national stages, long-tenured community members, and fresh new voices will partake in a curated line-up, forgoing traditional spoken word poetry show set ups.
Buffalo Speaks sits on the shoulders of WEDNESDAY NIGHT LIVE and the Caffe Aroma Poetry Night Open Mic. By creating a second level, poets & writers who frequent and make up the base of Buffalo vibrant literary scene have a new outlet and place to showcase their work.
It’s been a busy year. WEDNESDAY NIGHT LIVE saw eleven poets, including two poet laureates, feature at the Caffe Aroma Poetry Night Open Mic and run workshops at Amy’s Place. Thanks to ASI of WNY and the Creative Impact Fund, we were able to elevate the already running open mic.
With that under our belts, Justin Karcher and I sought out new hosts to create a new iteration of the open mic while we moved our attention to Buffalo Speaks.
We look forward to seeing everyone for the first show in July, but even more so to creating a new platform for writers and performers across Buffalo.
