Buffalo Sends a Team to the 2024 Southern Fried Poetry Slam

In June, Buffalo sent a team of five poets (Yamilla Tate, Jheanelle Kerr, Dallas Taylor, Jared Benjamin, and Brandon Williamson) to the 2024 Southern Fried Poetry Slam in Pompano Beach, FL.

After a week of competition, they finished ranked 22nd in the country, Buffalo’s fourth top 25 finish since 2015.

This marks the seventh time in the same period that Buffalo has sent a poetry slam team to represent the city in the largest annual national tournament. Buffalo finished in the top 10 twice, in 2016 and 2018.

Ground & Sky Anthology Launches at the Caffe Aroma Open Mic

Ground & Sky Writing Workshop launched the Ground & Sky Anthology: Journeys of Sacred Community on June 12th, 2024 at Caffe Aroma with sponsorship from Talking Leaves Books. The anthology was published by Before Your Quiet Eyes Publishing, based in Rochester, NY.

Features with work published in the anthology joined the Caffe’s open mic readers with passionate readings of their published works. The evening represented a cross-section of regional poetry with representatives from along the I-90 contributing.
