About the Launch:
Heather Rae Ackerman launched her debut book of poetry, Little Apartment (Fair Isle Publishing, 2024), at Caffe Aroma last Wednesday, May 1st.
The crowd at Caffe Aroma gathered to listen as Ackerman shared twenty minutes of work from the book, along with discussion about the book’s creation, and her intention when writing it.
“I wrote it with the intention of coming here to read pieces to this room,” Ackerman said. “The knowledge people would listen, […] that there was a constructive audience to read it to, that’s what made me keep wanting to write more until there was a book of it.”
Ackerman was joined by co-founder of Fair Isle Publishing, Amanda Falker, a group of twenty open mic readers, and the ambient sound of Elmwood Avenue on a Wednesday night as it wafted through the Caffe’s large open windows.
You can find Little Apartment on the Fair Isle Publishing website, here.
About the Book:
“Twenty years. Four apartments.
Unlock the door. Flip the switch. Make yourself at home.
This poetry collection is a Rust Belt love story about independence, roommates, loneliness, and life in America.”
– Little Apartment
As one reader of the book said, “It is honest, raw, and revealing poetry…may it inspire you to free yourself of any pent-up words inside your heart.”
